A question for landlords who supply washer/dryers. Is your washing maching set for only cold water use or both hot and cold. Asking for cost reasons of course.

  1. I supply a coined washer and dryer in the basment of my building the water is always cold, and never hot in order to save money. I advise against providing hot water for this unless your getting above market rent.

  2. Agreed. Hot water gas for 2 fam with 4 adults is about $50/month. How much do you think you’d save by stopping its use in the washer? $4.50?

Talk to tenants and show ’em (web) research that shows cold water cleans clothes just as well and hope they’re sentient.

  3. An indirect answer, since we have washer/dryer installed in each tenant apartment. However, IF we had one common machine, we would definitely allow for a full range of settings. In terms of both goodwill and actual cost, we find it foolish to provide an amenity and then limit/reduce it’s usefulness.
