I am planning a major renovation and thinking about the best insulation. I’ve heard many good things about Spray Foam Insulation. Any advise about the best Spray Foam Insulation contractors in Brooklyn? Someone was also telling me about this company: www.sprayfoamdirect.com They sell kits and apparently is not that difficult. Anybody has any experience? I’ve done some research and there are other companies: www.tigerfoam.com and www.fomofoam.com but I am not sure if it’s true that can be done as a Do it Yourself project.
Unless you are doing a very small area of your house or apartment I would avoid those foam kits. It is not as easy as those companies make it sound. I can’t imagine spraying foam out of non-heated hoses and having good results. They tell you to simply warm the tanks and apply in certain temperatures. This is usually not possible in an area under construction unless you plan only working in late spring or summer (at least in NYC).
The material is also not cheap. They all advertise there kits in board feet to make the price seem reasonable. A 600 board foot kit will only cover 600 square feet at an inch thick. Most stud bays need 2.5 to 4″ of foam. Foam also needs to be over sprayed a bit and cut flush with studs and joists for best results. There is also a waste factor to consider.
The cost to have foam professionally applied in a decent sized area will always be much cheaper then buying kits, even considering your labor as ‘fee’. If you want an exact cost send me an email: info@spkconstruction.com
