Special Paint for Bathrooms?
Can anyone recommend a type and brand of paint that is particularly good for a bathroom. My kids take lot’s of showers so it really is a steam room

I’ve used KILZ brand primer for any and all bathroom work that I’ve done. And I’ve used water-based semi-gloss enamel for the topcoats. Benjamin Moore. As long as that’s on the walls behind the paint there should not be any problem. If you’ve got windows and/or a vent/fan, great. If not … keep that door open a crack.
I agree about ventilation. I’ve re-plastered and painted my main bathroom walls four times since buying my house in 1974. The first three were with oil based paint, but I relied on minimal ventilation, through the skylight into the cock loft. The walls started to deteriorate within a few months each time. The most recent work was 1-1/2 years ago. I had a vent fan installed, with ductwork going through the roof, before having the walls repaired, skim-coated (including fiberglass mesh) and painting with latex paint recommended by the plasterer over oil. No damage to date.
Mostly echoing Bolder. The paint is much less important than the ventilation, especially in light of your comment re: steam room. Make sure your bathroom is well ventilated, either through window, vent and exhaust fan, or both, in which case any semi-gloss paint will work well.
Epoxy paint.
I have always used oil-based paint, with some sort of water-barrier primer underneath. Having said that, ventilation is still key.
