Permit to Install Front Awning?
My condo located on Atlantic Ave. wants to install an awning over the front entrance. Do we need a permit to do this since it will hang over the sidewalk?

you may need a franchise agreement with the DOT as well. If you do without a DOT OK they may ban your thing for lifetime depending on the specifications. There are limitations as to how much you want to go out and when the building is built
Don’t know how much OP knows, so adding to Jock’s comment:
If your building is in a historic district, not just an individual landmark, you will need to let LPC review your plans.

Yes, you need a permit. If your building is landmarked, it will need to get reviewed by them first.

Or go to: http://www.nyc.gov/apps/311/ and click through the various construction- and license-related levels. Depending on where you are located, you might also need a permit from NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.
