does anyone know of any building code that states how tall a pergola in my backyard can be? i want to build something about 12 feet tall. thanks.

  1. S if its made of a composite wood and is lets say 8 ft high with just the post having post foundations can you have it 1 ft away from the property line?

  2. If it is considered a structure which means that it is permanently fixed to the ground than it needs a permit. If it not permanently fixed then you don’t need a permit however you might sometimes need an exemption as a temporary structure which needs to be ok’d by commissioner’s office up to six months

  3. I agree, BH but it all depends upon how your relationship with your neighbors is and whether or not they have nothing better to do than report something like that, which is pretty low!!!

  4. I hate to tell you, but if this is going to be attached to sometype of foundation then you need a permit. If it is somehow freestanding, than it might be limited like a shed to 7′.

  5. You shouldnt have a problem in height but if it is from combustible material it will need to be setback from your lot lines a couple of feet
