Must paint door moulding white?
I am painting my walls a flat off white cream color and was wondering if most people on this forum would choose to paint their window moulding (I have nice wooden moulding) and doors and door moulding a semi-gloss white to accent the room or simply lay on the same color as the walls?

Don’t use flat paint on the walls, you can’t clean it. Eggshell is better. And I love the look of two almost whites near each other, like: a nice bright white semigloss or high gloss paint on trim, and a creamy white on walls. Elegant and cool, but subtle.
For window trim I use gloss or even enamel. Much easier to clean fingerprints off gloss paint. Also the trim really POPS with that high gloss look.
The higher the gloss the more imperfections will be reflected. Stick to a semi gloss or a satin.
Cream color walls with bright white moldings will look nice.
I’ll post a pic later of my parlour which I just repained. Walls definitely not cream but I like white/off-white moldings
You said you have nice wood moulding? If it’s not already painted and it’s the original moulding, I would choose to not paint it at all.
If it’s already painted, well, imo, I hardly ever paint white. I like colors. And I always accent the moulding in a different color. But yeah…semi-gloss. Too glossy=ick!
our last rental had off white walls and glossy white trim. I thought it looked nice. My main argument for painting the trim a contrasting semi-gloss would be to ease cleaning. The horizontal surfaces are going to attract more dust and dirt (and in our case dirty paw prints from our cat who loves sitting on the window sills watching the world go by…). If you painted your walls a flat off white, you’d still want to paint your trim semi-gloss or gloss; with the different finish, the trim is going to look different than the walls, so might as well make it look intentional.
We’re renovating our place and the contractor suggested the same colors that you mentioned: off white walls and glossy white trim. I was doubtful at first but it actually looks really nice. The subtle contrast works well and gives a little extra dimension.
