hi guys, it’s that time of year again and THIS year I’m going to do what I say I’m going to do every year and that’s get a new accountant!

So, can anyone recommend their own accountant who deals with real estate AND corp tax? I have searched the archives but details were lacking and I don’t want to just call a number. Any rec’s would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. sorry, just left my previous accountant who I felt wasn’t providing enough advice, just plugging in the numbers I gave him every year.

I know you have posted that you have tenants, so just make sure the accountant knows the difference between “real estate professional” and “actively participating” in management of your renatal property. As per the IRS tax codes, they’ve been after homeowners/landlords on this issue big time.
Also ask about Special Allowance for active participation in your real estate, allowing you to offset up to 25k of passive losses on active gains (phased out on active income of (100k-150k).
    good luck.

  2. Sorry, herk. My accountant is in Connecticut, or else I would’ve given you a recommendation as well as a hard time. 😉

If you change your mind, drinks on me!!

  3. you’re a rough drinkin’ crowd and I’m terrified of you all! That’s the real reason I can’t attend tomorrow’s gathering! Though, maybe I should face my fears with the help of some liquid courage…

    (thanks for the rec’s!)

  4. Herk, I’m in the same boat, and I love my accountant. He’s excellent, and has been doing my taxes for years. He’s in the city, and his rates are reasonable. If you call him, tell him I (real name) sent you.
