I am in the market for a new throne! I would like to get a water saving toilet. My budget goes up to $350. I understand that all toilet now produced use only 1.6 gallons per flush. Does that make them new toilets ‘green’. I would appreciate any suggestions.

My preference is to get a pressure assisted toilet but I have never owned one. How do they stand up to gravity driven toilets. I am also interested in a dual flush toilet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best regards!

  1. “ignore the idiot”

    Sounds good.

I installed two dual-flush Totos in my reno and they are excellent. Work much better than the old low-flows.

  2. Thanks all! Super helpful (as always) and while we are not golfers, we will take into consideration what our toddler might be throwing down the toilet. 🙂

We’ll report back with what we choose and how it works for us. Anything is going to be better than the runny toilet that we have….

  3. TO expand to rob’s post, check out the ‘water spot’ size (some specs show it) of the toilet. Bigger is better (less marking). A lot of low-flow toilets are still marginally effective, get one with good reviews so you don’t double-flush.

  4. the toto aquia looks like a good one. how hard could it be to install with a tile floor? how many bathrooms don’t have a tile floor?

  5. The ones I have were ordered with a sana gloss finish. No stains. Sorry about misleading you on the water main. Sometimes I type too fast!

  6. I saw an episode of This Old House where they were testing the latest American Standard toilets at the factory,
in one test they put in like 20 golf balls and the toilet flushed them without a problem. I assume they meet the latest standards in efficiency/water conservation.
…so that’s a recommendation for all you golfers out there.
