I have a drain in my driveway next to the garage and backyard and it is not draining. I opened up the trap and pulled out about four feet of solid dirt and roots from trees and mud. It took a couple of hours but I could not discover the pipe. I assume it must be in there somewhere under the solid layer of dirt. Even if it is it is also likely to be filled with dirt. I would like to try to open this up myself and avoid the expense of professionals coming to do this. I would like some advise on what equipment I might need to rent from Home Depot and how to go about fixing this proble.
Best way to solve the problem: Enlarge the pit to appr. 2 feet square by 3 feet deep, line the walls with concrete, throw some gravel at the bottom, cover the top with a grate. The pit will take all the rain water. You will never have to worry about a clogged pipe.
Good luck,
Sounds like a dry well to me too.
are you sure it’s a pipe and not a dry well?
Not to mention the possibility that what you attempt to dislodge will only end up in your basement house trap thereby blocking your entire drain system. Be prepared for a long day.
I wouldn’t waste my time at these prices. Even if it’s double for difficulty it’s got to be cheaper than renting a major drain auger at HD.
