Has anyone had the DEP come by to install the new automatic meter readers? We got a notice that we had to schedule a time and it was “mandatory”. Before I proceed, I would love to hear anyone else’s experience and if there is anything we should watch out for.
On the DEP website it says that if your water meter is more than 12 years old (which I assume ours is) they will replace it too and the wires to the outside that provide reading access.
Given the post earlier in the month about dealing with DEP on clearly wrong estimated water bills, I am a little leary.

Astral- in other words, it was a good trade.
I was told by the guy who did mine that there is a time limit on how many months they will do this without charging your account. So if you keep putting it off, you will have to pay for it and that it is “mandatory” to have it changed.
Just knocked on my door out of the blue. Had proper ID and work order with my name and address. Replaced water meter and remote reader on outside of building. 15 minutes start to finish.
We had it done, too: they came in, wrote down my social security number, took a copy of one of my bank’s checks, asked to borrow some family photo albums, installed these little camera thingies in a few rooms, made themselves a sandwich, cloned my computer’s hard drive, and were gone in just 20 minutes. Of course they took my wife with them…

Yep, same experience as above. I got a note in the mail naming the time they’d be coming by. I poked around online and made a phone call to confirm it was legit. They showed up promptly, poked around in the basement for a few minutes, finished up outside and were gone within 15 min.
I had same experience as Dibs. They thought they might have to get inside the building but didn’t. They also kept the appointment promptly!
They came to my house yesterday. I told them to reschedule and leave me some info to review. Some sort of wireless meter.
