Velux Replacement Skylights?
I want to replace my old leaky skylights. I was going to get the old style replicated but with insulated glass; but I read an old forum post that recommends a Velux skylight instead of the “crappy” old-fashioned metal-frame pyramid style. Anyone have any experience with these and/or know a local installer?

Thanks for all this, very helpful.
I have installed 4 skylights over the years: 1 Velux (bath), 2 Insuladome (kitchen), 1 brand X (hall). I haven’t replace the old wire glass (laundry). The Velux was very expensive – I went with it because it was supposed to be ventilate without opening it. It doesn’t ventilate a thing and was a waste of money. The exterior finish on both Insuladomes is peeling after 4 years. No problem with the brand X (10 years). Yes, go modern, and go operating, but I wouldn’t spring for a Velux again.
modern skylights are far superior in every way to the traditional kind that feature triangular pieces of uninsulated glass set in an uninsulated metal frame with a wire guard bonnet.
I have 2 velux installed at another place and they’ve been great for 15 years. If you’re having one put in a bathroom it’s nice to get the type that crank open either manually or electrically. You can also get sun blocking screens for them.
