I was kind of hoping that my repair guy was wrong; if he’s correct that’s pretty outrageous!
Bob Marvin, funny you should say that. I know someone who did some photo work for the Thermador showroom in Dumbo and received a floor model in exchange that ended up not working right. After a couple of months of haggling they delivered a brand new one instead of fixing the wiring in the convection oven.
Throw it out and buy a good Magic Chef ‘stainless’ instead. 10+ years in tow houses and counting.
I’ve been contemplating buying a new range for some time. When I asked the appliance repair man I’ve used for 20+ years for recommendations he warned me not to buy a Thermador because, he claims, they’re unrepairable. He said that Thermador replaces ranges that break during the warranty period but that if they stop working after that they might as well be thrown out.
I hope he’s wrong. FWIW he wasn’t much more enthusiastic about any other high end range. For the time being, I’m keeping the Caloric I bought when I first bought my house in 1974. Unfortunately, it’s about 20 years too new to be a real classic, but it works.
