Studio Renovation
Help. I need ideas on renovating and furnishing a 473 square foot studio apartment. I’m looking for creative options that will utilise the limited space.

Thank you all. Great information.
My brother’s studio is only 325 square feet, but is totally workable since it has a loft bed with office underneath. Only possible, though, if you have the height.
Best of luck~
Also, see some of the first entries in Rita Konig’s T the Moment NYT blog for examples of small apartments, especially kitchens.
Something I have seen people do that works great is use an open bookcase (like from West Elm or Pottery Barn) to divide the sleeping/sitting space from the entry/cooking.
For visually stunning and functional small space design, pick up some books on Japanese architecture. The NY Times occasionally prints interesting articles on small space living/design, including these:

Cool. Thanks for the info.
Have a look at this blog:

Every year they have a “smallest coolest” apartment competition and you can get some great ideas from that. Another great resource is this book:

One apartment in the book has a bed that rises into the ceiling. It has lots of other good ideas of real people’s apartments, both cheap and not so cheap.
