Hi all. Simple question here.
I have a small window in my basement – I use the room mainly as an office.
I’d like to replace the frosted panes with stained glass. I’ve noticed a lot of recommendations on the forum for Albert’s on St Mark’s – conveniently close to me – but little about pricing.
The window has two panes – 26″w x 17″ h. Any ideas of what something like this might cost, for a simple design?
Ballpark is fine, just want to get a sense of the realm I’m dealing with here.
Don’t know if you decided yet, but 350 is a good ballpark figure. Go for lead came if he does it. Copperfoil is ok, but the lead has a nicer, original look to it. It’s not a big deal to cut out the center separation, allowing you more choice in design.
Go for textured glass versus opalescent. Lets in more light and the texture obscures the view into the office.
Although I do this stuff, I came upon you by accident.
Forget it, I’m near Montreal! Good luck.
I’d deal with Albert over some unknown ebay vendor any day! He does really excellent work. I know this because he restored one stained glass skylight panel for us and replaced the pattern glass in another. The stained glass restoration was in the nabe of $1000; the pattern glass replacement (an upgrade) was about $350 or so. Both of those panels were way larger than the little window you’re talking about. I suggest that you go by the shop and talk with him. Bring along a photo of your window and your dimensions. He’s very easy to talk to and, of course he’ll give you a quote.
I have seen sites on ebay where they custom make stained glass for $85 per sq. ft. plus $11 for shipping. You can search ebay for custom stained glass.
Good luck
