Or suggestions for how else to dampen the noise? Many thanks.
gellergeorge seems like a consumer, however he’s a well documented SPAMer for that company.
Look at the independent lab data before proceeding with anything. You can spend a LOT on products that have poor lab data.
Yes, just as CookieCutterBrownstone has said, many people are faced with this problem. I know someone who used QuietRock to soundproof their house for the same reason that you’ve mentioned, and it’s worked great. Try it out.
Perhaps you could check out the QuietRock product. They have a 1/4 inch drywall that could be attached to the ceiling using quiet glue or something, and it would improve on your sound situation.
You can consult with an acoustical engineer/firm such as http://www.ceramiassociates.com/. That is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
keep in mind that spray foam is highly flammable

Sound blankets. They sell them for shielding construction sites but we’re going to use them in a more permanent way. Allowing us to remove as needed. They show some surface mounted “decorative” blankets but I was thinking of using them between two independent walls or possibly a dropped ceiling.

FWIW, I’m working on soundproofing a complicated twin fan roof condenser suspended over a skylight and have discovered the following:

We’re using them because we need access to the equipment and there is some “play” in using something like this. I checked their site and they seem to have a lot of residential applications going on. Price wise, we haven’t even gotten that far. I’ve talked to Lee Oliver there but all seem to be helpful.
