Handyman or More?

The bathtub in my tenant’s apartment has started leaking again. I re-grouted the offending tile a few months ago, but I realize now that the problem is likely that the underlying sheetrock is shot – tiles are starting to come loose. It’s very likely that at least one wall of the tub will need to be re-done.
Does that still fall under the scope of a handyman in this town, or do I need more? And what’s a reasonable ballpark on a job like this?
Recommendations on who to talk to always appreciated.
I recommend a guy who worked out well for me in an area between handyman work and GC work – I got a shower stall replaced, some wall repair, plastering, electrical work. He came recommended to me as redid 2 bathrooms at the home I used to live in (new tile / tub / sink / toilet) and did good work for a very reasonable price .

I would opt for a small patching if it’s a rental. I mean, unless you want to go all out but I don’t think it’s an expense you want to undertake. Rip out a small portion to evaluate how bad is the damage inside. You might end up not seeing anything and the expense will be minimal or you might need to tear down the whole 4X6 wall to repair damage and redo sheetrock/wanderboard. If you can do it yourself, that’s great. If not, I can recommend a very reasonable handyman/contractor who would do the job for you at a reasonable rate.
The plumbing itself is sound – the damaged wall isn’t where the pipes are. There’s definitely some degree of water damage.
I guess on some level it’s a scope-of-work issue. In theory, I could pull out a 4-6sqft section of this one wall, replace the sheetrock & re-tile, but is that worth it, given the likely condition of most of the rest of the tub walls? How much would it cost to have the job done right, versus a small patching?
It’s a small bathtub, nothing fancy. Rental unit bathroom & all that.
Sounds like water damage. You might need a plumber and then a handyman to finish up the job. Can you at least take the wall apart and get a plumber to come in and evaluate the damage?
