Hope someone here can help. I need a recommendation for a cheap and quick designer/carpenter to design and build a narrow bed and small bookshelf in my son’s bedroom. We live on the upper west side of manhattan, and the room is a maid’s room, roughly 8’x7′. we’re looking for something VERY simple, but needs to fit in a tight space and also incorporate a way to cover a very hot steam pipe behind the head of the bed. My thought is that the cover would include a small bookshelf. We have almost no budget for this, but again, we’re looking for a very simple solution–bed could literally be a piece of ply over 4 blocks. Any thoughts?
Thanks all!

I used this guy John based on a rec from someone on this site and I loved him! I was looking for a “One guy, small shop” kind of thing to just fabricate a few cabinet doors for me. He did a beautiful and quick job. Here is his email: john@bienhechobklyn.com

There’s a reason they invented Ikea…you’ll spend less than you will than what you’ll spend on the carpenter, and can have it much faster.
Steampipe riser> Wrap length with very thick rope (nothing plastic) from top to bottom in a continuos coil.
Bed>Swedish beds are traditionally narrower than ours, try IKEA. Lots cheaper than any carpenter can custom build.
