Water Leak in Basement

In the last few months, during the heavy rains, water came pouring though our electrical panel in the basement. We called Con-Ed and after many go rounds, they plugged up the pipe on the inside, and in the street. However, water still leaks around the patch when it rains. Con Ed says it’s a customer issue, even though clearly the water is still coming in from the pipe. Any recommendations?
We’re not sure where the water is entering the pipe…from the street, or from some nearby tree roots…any recommendations on how to proceed? should we call a plumber? a waterproofing basement company? a general contractor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Con Ed? Bunch of dicks. Next thing you know they will be cutting off your service because they detected stray voltage…And then not coming back to change the lines until you remove that 4″ piece of asbestos in your boiler room.
What eman1234 said. Wait till they start salting the streets this winter.
you do not want to stop the leak at your basement…it should be stopped at the duct in the concrete junction box in the street…otherwise your feed is permanently soaked in street water
Sodium bentonite. Handy suggestion. Thank you.
I have seen sodium bentonite used in a situation like this. It is a naturally occurring material that swells 15 x 20 times its size when it gets wet. Easy to install.
Thank you all so much.
Contact Public Service Commission; They will resolve it on your behalf. If there is actual damage get in touch with con edison Claims Department.
I would call both 311 and Con Ed, and report it as an electrical emergency to both: http://www.coned.com/contactus.asp
If you have an electrician you use on a regular basis, I’d call them too and ask their recommendation of how to handle.
Con Ed is full of crap
The same happened to me, they wound up replacing the conduit from the box across the street. Of course this took many months to resolve.
Tell them that you are concerned about power outages etc and if all else fails, contact thier legal department.
THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE
