I have a small upholstered seat cushion that needs to be cleaned of overall dirt and small stains. The fabric cover unzips from the foam cushion. Where do I take this item….the corner dry cleaner? An upholsterer?

My search for “brooklyn upholstery cleaning” comes up with large scale commercial cleaners with no drop off service. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, BoD

  1. thanks for all the feedback. this is a molded fiberglass chair with a simple, solid color seat cushion. the fabric is not wool, but not cotton either (at least i don’t think so) prob some kind of heavy synthetic blend – there are no tags on the inside. It is held in place by 4 plastic velcro strips sewn directly onto the fabric. I am not sure what, if any, special cleaning accommodations must be made for them. Okay, I will try my local dry cleaner first. thanks! BoD

  2. What’s the fabric? If it’s silk or wool, dry cleaning should be fine–better than steam-cleaning. And a good dry cleaner should be able to deal with the stains.

I also like Fabraclean, but they do upholstery–not single cushions or pillows.

  3. It might be worth having the entire chair steam cleaned because sometimes the fabric will lighten slightly if cushions are cleaned separately. I have had mixed results with bringing covers into dry cleaners – but that was with cushion covers that had embroidery. If it is simply a cushion cover without decoration, a dry cleaner should be able to do it, but ask first to be sure. If you want to do the entire chair and have it steamed, I recommend Fabraclean, they steamed a chair for me this summer with good results. They removed most of the stains and all of the dirt.

  4. The seat cushion cover is not washable (and there is only one). It needs a steam clean. That’s really what I’m looking to have done.
