Pest Control Necessary?
How necessary is regular pest control? We just bought and moved into a 2-family brownstone. The sellers had been getting Orkin’s anti-roach gel treatment 4x/year and say they never saw bugs. How necessary is regular pest control? We just bought and moved into a 2-family brownstone. The sellers had been getting Orkin’s anti-roach gel treatment 4x/year and say they never saw bugs. We’ve also seen nothing in the weeks we’ve been there. We’d been planning to continue the quarterly treatments, but when we asked the Orkin guy how often he treats his own home, he chuckled and said, “Never.” I appreciate his honesty and am now wondering about the necessity of preventative treatments. I may scale back to 2x/year or eliminate the treatments altogether, calling an exterminator in the event I see a roach. Are preventative treatments really necessary?
hmmn. i got a problem with my hut within the barn about this. it did not take me long to find out that my bamboo hut was empty inside thanks to termites. i hired a pest control in new york (http://www.aaaabco.com/) then they gave me tips. after that, it was all good. always watch out for leaks.
Thanks, folks. We’re quite clean, as is our tenant, so I think I will try getting rid of the service. Appreciate your thoughts.
When we moved into our place, we had a total nightmare of an infestation. Got the place bombed, and then I put out the poison bait stations.
Haven’t seen a roach since, and we’ve got glue traps all over the house where we used to see them. I’d give it a shot. If you start to see roaches, then you know and you can deal with it.
If you like toxicity around you, by all means do pest treatments regularly.
In 9 years I’ve never had to call an exterminator (touch wood.) If I see a roach I put out a trap for a while. And I have cats.
I’ve never had any pest work done. If you don’t need it, I wouldn’t do it. What do the people in the other unit say?
Depends on your level of personal cleanliness.
