Griffin vs. Clinton Hill Coops
Has anyone lived in either of these buildings? Can anyone attest to the quality of the management/cleanliness of the buildings? I am not interested in the train debate just the quality of the buildings themselves and wether or not they are well managed.
From what I have seen Clinton Hill Coops look great. Clean and decent looking hallways, elevators, etc. Seems like a really active board.
Though I love the architecture of the Griffin the hallways and lobby and common areas look AWFUL. Totally run down and shabby which is such a shame….looks like it is falling apart.
yeah for unionized employees. Definitely go there.
the other bldg I find interesting is the taller one with balconies closer to Pratt…a bit newer than clinton avenue coops. What are those like and what kind of prices?
This is so helpful! Thank you all for sharing your experiences! Any more comments are welcomed! I have been wanting to live in one of those buildings for such a long time!
I’ve lived in both! I lived briefly in the Griffin and my best friend owned an apartment there–actually, she combined two apartments there. Then I bought in the Clinton Coops. My feeling–obviously, given my history–is that the Coops are the better deal. I still believe they are the best deals in Fort Greene–truly, you get a big two bedroom for the price of a small one-bedroom anywhere else in the neighborhood.
The building (361) is admittedly ugly from the outside, but you look out on lovely buildings and the apartments are spacious, full of light, and very well-maintained by a unionized team of maintenance workers and an on-site management company.
My best friend was on the Griffin board and they were really committed to improving the building, but it is a harder job maintaining that building because they have a small staff. I have since moved to Los Angeles, but had no problem renting my Clinton Hill Coop–in one day, from making one post on a parenting Web site and for my asking price. So I am very pleased with the investment in the coops and I lived there happily for 7 years.
Hi,
I live in the Griffin (since 2003). I have to say I have a lot of pride in the building, and I love living there. I will admit that the lobby and hallways are not great (the drop ceilings in the hallways are a peeve for me), but there is a plan in the works to renovate the lobby in 2010.
Lucky33, there’s also the massive price diff – griffin is probably 35%+ more expensive on comparable units
I’ve lived in the Clinton Hill Coops for seven years. We’ve been quite happy. It is rather utilitarian but it’s clean, relatively well managed, has nice views, and is a decent value for the neighborhood. I don’t know anything about the Griffin.
