Architect Needed?
A reputable, specialized contractor is redoing my brownstone facade. Is there any need to also hire an architect to supervise? The contractor insists he knows what needs to be done, and he has done several. Landmark approval of the project is being sought. Thanks for any input!

Depending on precisely what you wish to do an architect may or may not be legally required. If you are repairing and replacing “in-kind” a Permit for Minor Work may be obtained from Landmarks by you, the contractor, or an architect. If you are altering the facade in any way you will need an architect to prepare documents for submission to Landmarks and the Building Department. Ed Kopel Architects, PC
