Saw a big angry raccoon last night on Clinton and Degraw. Aside from calling 311, what do people do? He was hissing and seemed aggressive. Would hope that 311 follows up with Animal Control. Anyway, if you walk a dog in that area, be careful.

  1. I saw a a really large coon sitting in a large tree (I didn’t even know they climbed trees)in my neighbor’s yard on Degraw between Smith and Hoyt last week. On a more fun note, the Brooklyn Parrots seem to be taking up residency here. I had no idea i’d have such an animal kingdom in my backyard.

  2. Rabid animals are extremely extremely rare, especially in NYC. It was probably just scared and pissed off because you were too close.

  3. Thanks for the advice you two. Hopefully they’ll get on it, because the hissing made me nervous. Max has had his rabies shots but I haven’t!

  4. There was a raccoon next door to my house at a construction site a few months ago that wreaked havoc with my garbage. It’s gone now… hate to think of what might have happened to it, but I called 311 to see if they could do anything and was referred to animal care and control. They told me that unless it’s rabid they don’t do anything. Individuals (ie, property/biz owners, renters, etc) can however hire someone to trap and remove it for you.

  5. They typically aren’t that angry and worked up. Stay away, it may be rabid.

I’d call animal control yourself if you can keep track of its whereabouts.
