I’m helping a client locate reasonably priced window shades. I’ve reviewed earlier posts. What I would like is some suggestions from people whose shades are holding up. I bought one for myself from Bed Bath & Beyond, and it lasted about a day. Anybody have Pintchik blinds that are lasting? It looks like Home Depot screws up a lot of orders, and I usually avoid them since they end up costing my clients more time and money in the end. Thanks!

  1. We have plain off-white roller shades (with blackout lining) from The Shade Store in our bedroom. Not inexpensive but they are good quality with attractive non-flimsy fittings. I installed them myself even tho’ I’m not especially handy. A perfect fit. I actually sleep better because they do such a good job of blocking light.

  2. Have you considered Smith and Noble? They’re not the cheapest option, but some of my clients have used them and have been happy with the results.

  3. The Shade Store has competitive prices for made to measure window coverings. Their factory is in Long Island City and most orders are ready for installation in 7 – 10 days. If your client’s windows are anything other than the sizes of stock blinds/shades in Home Depot, made to measure is the way to go. If you go to The Shade Store’s website you can do an online estimate to work out if you want to pay what they charge or $6 at the local dollar store for standard width venetians.

  4. Try the mailorder companies for shades. I just bought some white room darkening roller shades from selectblind.com.
They were reasonably priced ad showed up in a week.
I gave the measurements and the order was not screwed up.

  5. My Pintchnik blinds have held up well for 2 years. We open and close them nearly every day, often more than once (to accommodate baby napping schedule).

I’ll go back to them next time I need blinds if I still live nearby.
