Asbestos Replacement
We’re going have our asbestos insulation around the basement water pipes removed. What is the best alternative to replace it? I’ve heard PVA, fiberglass, insulating cardboard, rubber… Any insight? TIA

Fiberglass –
Larger diameter as well:

You sure those are water pipes and not steam or condensate pipes? They usually didn’t use asbestos on cold water pipes.
If they are water pipes, what SS says…
If steam/condensate, use fiberglass.
On the elbows, there’s a rubberized tape you can get.
BTW, I never seen Self-Seal Foam Pipe Insulation in large diameters (i.e. 2″). Is there a reason for this?
Try Self-Seal Foam Pipe Insulation. It comes in many different sizes.

I used fiberglass, installed it myself. Seems to insulate well, tho I didn’t bother insulating the elbow joints.
