Call a foundation repair company. The same thing happened to us at our house in Durham. I might suggest using http://www.ramjackusa.com/residential-foundation-solutions.html if you are in their service area.
I’d also recommend Manny, who’s recommended many times on Brownstoner for his fireplace work. He did some more basic work in my basement and it turned out great. And a pleasure to work with. His number is 917-292-1825.

ok thanks to everyone for the suggestions. to answer your question vinca, yes, this was cited before the purchase, but i loved the property too much, and the previous owners did not know why it was there as they were basically flipping the thing after having owned it for only a year or two.
I agree w/ vinca – I’d have an engineer check it out before just having masonry work done.
Just curious whether this was cited in pre-purchase inspection? If this was my home, I’d have some concerns about cause of loose stones and structural integrity, and wouldn’t hire a mason before figuring out the cause.
I used Nasir Construction co at 718-253-0994, and cell 917-330-5855 for my masonry in the back and also my roof. I really liked Nasir. Out of the quotes I got, his price was the most reasonable, and he did the work quickly and efficiently. My only complaint is that he did not clean up the work site 100% as well as I would have, but who does?
