If it is the right choice, where can I find Mexican tile in NYC? So far the places I’ve checked don’t carry any.
I want dark blue tiles, and LOVE the finish of Mexican tiles.
Thanks!
VBP, in what way?…
– aesthetic stultification?
– anal-ness?
– tempest in a teapot-ness?
– latent anti Mexican-labor?
– other?
Oh, man it’s threads like these that make me wonder why I post anything here…
“Mexican tile requires expert installation”
By a Mexican? Shouldn’t be a problem finding one, lol.
I have a friend who used beautiful green enameled Mexican tile (not saltillo) for her kitchen walls and counter. They do chip rather easily so be aware of that too.
Here’s an old post I did on internet sources:

The glossy colorful ones aren’t meant for the floor. They would be pretty slippery.
Locally, Mondial Tile on 65th St & 14th Ave has a great selection and prices are decent.
Good luck!
As DIBS already noted re: height, and also re: manufacture, Mexican tile requires expert installation and usually needs extra care in sealing and maintenance.

Whether it looks good in a bathroom or not, eman has a point about the tile. It is handmade and if you plan on just using pieces for a colorful pattern, they will be higher than the surrounding “field” of “normal” tiles sold here. You have to match the entire floor to the handmade pieces.
There are some high end tile shops in Chelsea in the west teens or twenties that have this but can’t remember the names of any.
My eman1234, did not know your aesthetics were so hidebound! If OP likes the look, what’s wrong with it? disclosure…I have a bath with Mexican random color tile on the walls and imo it looks great.
I got them mailorder from west coast, cannot find the name, sorry.
mexican tile is usually handcrafted lumpy stuff that just looks silly in broklyn…kind of like the dress that looked good in puertovallarta, but is an embarrassment in brooklyn
