We need to remedy a heat loss problem on our parlor floor and extension. We’ve already adjusted radiator steam heat, and weatherproofed to the greatest extent possible (short of a build-out to add insulation). Our parlor floor windows need repair, restoration or replacement regardless…some immediately, some in the long run. Any leads, recommendations, or cautions based on personal experience much appreciated.
Just to update, Historical Windows is E-Z Tilt. We slowly transitioned a name change over the past 3 years do to the type of work we do.
When my father started opened E-Z Tilt in 1970 vinyl windows were the rage. Over the past 20 years or so we stopped selling vinyl and aluminum and concentrated on wood products in historical and landmarked areas. But we are the same company.
One correction, Marvin discontinued the “E-Z Tilt” line around 7 years ago and replaced it with the “Ultimate” line

Thanks again…and definitely with you on lower temperatures at night.
We didn’t need LPC filing because we did this 2 years ago — before Prospect Heights was landmarked. I can’t exactly say what our heat gain was but anecdotally I can tell you two things. One, we hang out in the front parlor more in Jan and Feb than in previous years (our upstairs sitting room is still warmer due to lower ceilings and being away from the front door but the difference is no longer as great). Two, we also have Marvins in our bedroom where the thermostat is and ironically that’s been a tiny problem because now the heat often cycles on and off too infrequently thanks to the new windows keeping the bedroom warm! I just manually adjust the thermostat when I feel the rest of the house is too cool. But I like having the thermo in the bedroom because I hate to sleep in a hot room.
Many thanks, Grand Army. Historical Windows installs Marvin E-Z Tilts, too. It’ll be interesting to compare their services with Bay Ridge. No matter where I read, seems as if many a good window defeated by bad install. Can you say roughly how much heat gain? Did you use Bay Ridge to file with LPC too?
We had EZ-Tilt in Bay Ridge install Marvin windows in our parlor. They make a huge difference both from a heat insulation, sound-proofing, and aesthetic point of view. I also really liked dealing with the EZ-Tilt crew. They know what they’re doing. But they are very expensive so I’ve wondered if there might not be high quality but more affordable options. Neighbors of mine have Kolbe windows and others have Lincoln. I don’t know who installed them though. It’s an issue because if the measurements are wrong or the installation is no good, you could buy a good product but get a lousy result. Sorry I’m not familiar with anyone you list above.
