Hey All,
We’re to the point where we need to replace all the windows (frames included) in our apartment. A big and daunting job. We need advice on what type of windows to install–aluminum clad wood or solid aluminum. Are aluminum clad the best quality?
Also, we’re looking for a good local company for installation. Has anyone had a good window experience lately?
Thanks so much, Molly
Molly – I have been in window replacement hell. We need to replace 10 in our apt. big ones! Am told by several installers that to make it at all affordable we should replace the aluminum with aluminum because of the stupid way initial windows install when builder converted our 100 + yr. old factory building into apartments. I had hoped to go with aluminum clad so I could have wood finish on the interior. Apparently this will require removing sheet rock and sills.
Searching the internet I find no information about brands or installers so …I need info about double hung aluminum windows and who does this work in Brooklyn – Park Slope. Please someone out there give needed input.
aluminum clad wood is definitely better than solid aluminum.
generally best quality is considered marvins or pellas (although there has been recent traffic about trimlines being good).
our contractor installed ours so can’t recommend a window company.
