Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has any opinions to share on grout color. I’m redoing my bathroom using biscuit 3×6 subway tiles and 5/8″ honey onyx tiles on the floor. The subway tiles have been placed with very thin grout lines giving a more vintage look. But what color grout should I use? I think black would be too harsh… maybe the same bone color grout I’m doing on the floor or should I just go a shade or two darker for the walls. I’m sure the answer is ‘whatever I like’, but I’d love some input from those of you with experience in this. thanks!

  1. maybe I’m reading this wrong. It looks to me that u have subway tiles on your wall that are a biscuit color and onyx style tile on the floor that are a honey color either way I would go with the same color of the tile so that u have a nice flow .Remember though if your not happy with whatever color u decide on u can always give us a call I can match or change the color of any grout u have.

  2. On the wall, a white or off white tile will make the grout less noticeable (I assume thats what you want b/c of the small grout lines).

On the floor, go a few shades darker than the color of the tile (not sure what honey onyx is) to hide any spills down the road. The grout becomes more noticeable but not so much so after time. A true black would be very stark (unless the tiles are black) and overkill IMO.

  3. I would go a little darker than you initially think you should. I did a kitchen backsplash in white subway tile, and went with an off white grout. From any distance, the wall just looks white, losing the shape of the tile.
