Sadly, all the original woodwork in our brownstone duplex was painted over with what looks like primer. We don’t have the resources to strip them down to the original so we want to re-paint them. In one room we went with high gloss white and it looks really nice. But what do you think about deep brown for one of the large doors. I think it would look good to the wall paint we selected and I would love something besides white.

Thanks

  1. I agree with Denton. For a slightly more unusual color range, check out Farrow & Ball. Many of their colors are based on popular colors from the 18th/early 19th century when painted wood was the norm. These colors are NOT Victorian and can look unexpectedly modern when used today.

  2. The only think I don’t like about brown is that it looks like you were trying to make the door look like wood. At least when you paint wood white it’s clear you’re not tryng to fake it.
