I am curious if you’re a renter if the building is supposed to or HAS to install the AC? I’m having trouble getting the super down to my place to do it and was wondering if the building is required to do it. Otherwise I will probably do them myself.

  1. Yeah, I’m having an installer from the store I bought the newer one from come to put it in. for $65. I’ll probably try to slip him another $40 to install a smaller one in the bedroom. I really appreciate everyone’s help. For someone who’s never rented in a large building before, it can be surprising how much you need to learn about dealing with a management company, super, etc. Thanks.

  2. Unless you know what you are doing, A/C’s should be professionally installed. Some co ops / management companies reguire it. The last thing they or you want is a 40lb unit crashing down 6 stories on the sidewalk because it was propped up by a soup can. The city has been cracking down as well. Annie and the others are right, supers are not required to help but many would for a few bucks $40-100 usually.

  3. Offer to pay and make clear you don’t expect it to be free. Offer specific amount and be reasonable — and if not worth the money then do it yourself.

  4. I’ve never heard anything like this. Maybe if your window is over the sidewalk or a walkway and it could be a potential liability if you installed it incorrectly. I live in a co-op and the super doesn’t do things like that. If you’re unsure, you should just check with the management company.
