A few days ago I wrote about a water leak that transpired from my 2nd floor toilet down to my basement. Well anyway the 1st floor door casing leaked out water from above and seems to have expanded. Now the door won’t close. What recourse should I take? Should I see if I can bang the casing to it’s original position, take off the door plate and see if it would close and it so do a slight wood shaving under the plate and if that doesn’t work have someone shave one side of the door? Does this make any sense? Can you offer any suggestions?
If it was really saturated, it could take a few weeks to dry – especially in high humidity.
Give it some time.
Both the casing and door was stained and polyurethaned.
What kind of finish do you have on the door? Is your end grain open? Is it still wet? If you let it dry out it should shrink back.
Well I carried out my plan…..I took off the latch, hammered all around the casing and it still won’t close.
I’ve left the fan on it now for approx. 5 days. How long would you think it would take?
Can you wait and see if it dries out? A fan or hair dryer might help.
