I found a bunch of them in my finished basement. They were near the basement door and halfway into the basement. It must have been about 40 of them, which I killed with ant spray. I’ve never seen so many ants at one time inside the house. Why would they come in? And what can I do to prevent them from re-entering? I’ve already sprayed the ant killer around the door area, but I feel this is a very temporary solution when the stuff dissipates. Any suggestions appreciated.
Wow, I just posted on this above. I got a text from my tenant leaving before dawn this am telling me about a swarm of flying ants in the hallway. After killing them, I did a little research and found that they often hatch after heavy rains (3-4 days after rains) since it has been raining continuously, that’s what’s going on.
Ants, not termites. Try Terro Liquid Ant Baits. Worked a treat for us when we had carpenter ants by the door to the deck.
THOSE ARE NOT ANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a recent meeting of the New York State Republican Party. They just LOOK like ants….
Ants have a cinched waist like those in the photos, while termites are even bodied.
Those bait traps are good – they eat the contents & take it back to the nest. Also spreading used coffee grounds around the foundation – outside- appears to work.
Definately Ants. You would not see termites especially crawling along your basement floor.
