Anyone have recommendations for whole-house water filter? We use Brita for the tap water, but I’d like a filter that will remove some of the sediment at the point of entry.

  1. I use Ametek. Depends on your water use but the filters last up to 3 months for me & cost about $15. each. I do the whole house & have had the same unit for 25 years. I was told years ago that it helped almost everything since it filters out sediment that causes wear on water heater, ice maker, dishwasher, laundry, etc. HD & Lowe’s both sell the housings – again, not very costly. It’s a big cylinder (about 18″ long & 6″ diameter.) Filters are easy to change.

  2. I love the Everpure products:

I would suggest a filter under the kitchen sink with a dedicated faucet and a run to the icemaker. I feel there is no benefit filtering water that will run to the toilet and shower.

    I use Everpure’s H-54 filters

    – this filters out lead, giardia and cryptosporidium. It filters out particles 1/2 micron and larger in size.
