I live in a PArk Slope coop. I want to build a very cool office shed in my garden-120 sq ft or less, no plumbing. Does anyone know if I need a permit for this? I don’t believe I do.

  1. Even if you don’t need a permit, which you probably do, I’m sure you’d need board approval.

However if you were to put up one of those small sheds that you can buy in Lowes or HD, as long as you weren’t putting in a foundation, you could probably dispense with a permit.

  2. Whether and what kind of structure you can or can’t erect in your yard is governed by zoning regulations and building code. These links would be good places to start your reading:

  3. you need a permit to even think about construction in nyc…if you are wiling to tear it down before you sell the property, or even list it ,then go ahead and hope no one calls 311 on you

  4. Best to call 311, department of buildings. A permit it needed to build a deck. There’s rules about how far back the deck can go and how high. I would image there would be
guidelines to building a shed, but not certain. Also, if it’s being used as an office,
you’ll need electric which also leads me to believe that a permit would be necessary.
