a tenant in our condo decided to break down a wall and co=opt the space behind it as part of his residential living space. aside from not getting the necessary permits, this is not his space per the offering plan. our lawyer sent a cease and desist letter and the board went into inspect it, but construction continues to this day. the condo board wants to use the ‘self-help’ rules and wants to draft a letter. does anyone have experience in this or what such a letter would look like? should i break into her apt and sheetrock up the wall myself? haha.
The DOB will stop illegal work, but the remedy of a Stop Work Order may get complicated.
it’s an owner who’s done the dirty..
condo board and lawyer have talked to thenm, served a cease and desist notice, to no avail. unless you’ve got a bottomless litigation fund, what to do?
Shouldn’t someone(the condo board, an attorney) be contacting the owner??? I would assume the owner would be responsible for the actions of their lease holders as well as any legal and construction fees incurred to change back whatever this selfish whacko has done!
Something went wonky and posted my comments before I finished! Was going to say I hate people who are incapable of considering other people. It’s a disability more serious than say, being in a wheelchair.
Sounds like the friend of a friend who rented a room from me in my first house in my 20’s. I came home from work to find he was painting the ceiling black, the beautiful curved plaster ceiling I’d just had skimcoated and painted. Later he dragged, yes dragged, an upright piano across my newly finished wood floors. He was outta there after that. The guy went to Princeton, was intellectually intelligent but he was a complete ‘tard in terms of emotional intelligence. Sheltered, spoiled, totally entitled. HATE

he’s a tenant. i know, cuckoo. ish happens…
Wow, madness – What’s the space the tenant is annexing? Corridor? Common space? It’s hard to picture what’s going on….but agreed, sounds like a letter’s not goign to do much at this point.
This is a tenant? Or an owner? If it is a tenant where does the owner stand in all this?
