I just purchased a house in Brooklyn using and FHA loan. I would HIGHLY recommed Scott Rapheal at Manhattan Mortgage. He was amazing and talked me through the whole process. Seriously–he’s the best. If you need to contact me to get more information about him, you can e-mail me at mauriacbrklyn@yahoo.com.
I recently refi’d into an FHA loan with a cashout for home improvement and my rate is in the high 4’s (amazing). Ifound my broker through the Equal Opportunity Home Council…very helpful organization.
I’ve got a wonderful mortgage broker who is doing our FHA loan–Robert Slifer at Eastern Bank, 212-582-5222. Martin Murray of Bedford Funding also does FHA loans.
From our experience, brokers won’t handle FHA loans. There’s no fee or commission structure built into it for them. We asked several, and all swore off it or claimed not to know a thing about how to do it.
check out Neighbors Helping Neighbors (nhnhome.org) or Acorn – you need to connect with some sort of advocacy group to help get in with FHA – that is about as close to a broker as FHA will get. Otherwise do a lot of homework and be prepared to go solo.
