Heya Brownstoners,

We’ve got a hitch in our giddyup because despite the fact that the plumber and electrician who’ve been working on our house are great, both claim they can’t wire our boiler (weil mclain ultra series 3). Both recommended electricians to do it, and both were (in our opinion) way too expensive. Anyone out there know of an electrician who can do this work for a reasonable price, or anyone out there who can do it themselves?

Thanks.

  2. the weil mclain ultra is not an easy plain vanilla boiler, but honestly any decent electrician should be able to wire it …i have installed many ultras and never had a problem..what was the bid that you felt was too high, and also how many devices are to be wired..there should be a primary pump, and however many secondary pumps or zone valves as per design of your system, a pump control relay if zoned by pumps, a low water cutoff, line voltage or low voltage, a high temperature cutoff with manual reset, low voltage wiring for any thermostats, an outdoor sensor to adjust the heating curve, and a service switch….i think that you misunderstood how many devices are involved, thinking that you were dealing with a plain vanilla boiler…but if you want me to take a look, email me …errol832000@yahoo.com

  3. An electrician who can’t wire a boiler that has a clear wiring diagram included is at best a handyman/light bulb changer.

How many zones is this? Do all the thermostat cables have to be run as well? How can you as a homeowner judge if some specialized work is way too expensive? What prices were you given?
