We’re looking at getting Trimline windows. I see lots of feedback on installers, but not much since 2006 about the performance of the windows themselves. Anyone care to weigh in?

I asked Chris at Windows We Are why they’re so much cheaper than Marvin if the quality is just as good, and he said Trimline is a much smaller company. Does that hold water?

  1. THey are chunky by comparison to other windows. As an architect I wanted to maximize the light and the frames on the Trimline replacement windows, yes aluminum clad and wood interior, are a total of 2 inches wider than the Lowen or Pella’s Architect series. If you have the original windows currently you will see the difference. To me they are “chunky” but the windows are fine; this may not be a criteria for other consumers.

Most people replace their windows and don’t realize they are cutting down on the original glass area; this is common on many renovated brownstones.

  2. Mine did not have chunky frames. I went with the trimline double hung replacment windows with the would interior window frame trim. Not chunky at all.

  3. They perform ok….the sight lines are clumsier and chunky- you loose more light since the glass area is reduced by the chunky frames. This is a preference but the window is fine; I got them for the back of the house -they still aren’t cheap but I do feel I compromised aesthetically.

I have all Pella Architect series in the front of the house and the sightlines are great, slender frame , fits in well with the existing brick mold…again it’s all about aesthetics. Frankly dealing with Pella is nightmarish, it’s why I went with WIndows We Are. Go to Pella for the quintessential NYC business ripping off the customer experience.Their salespeople are inexperienced and crooked.

The Trimline also have a bigger airspace and thicker glass so the insulative value is better…I got the more expensive ones .

Other window which I wanted to get but it was difficult bc I didn’t have a contractor and they don’t do any installation is Lowen Window- a truly a great product. THe rep is in Brooklyn.THis is a Canadian product, far better quality than trimline or pella and better made. If you have a contractor to do the measuring and isntallation then go with these guys.

the bklyn rep is also very cool and helpful.

  4. I had all my windows replaced with Trimline (23) 4.5 years ago and I am very satified. FYI, trimline is also accepted by Landmarks now as well. I had a project on a landmark block in the last year and got approval from the board to use all trimline windows.

  5. About 2 years ago I had 6 Trimline wood windows installed in the rear of my apartment and 3 Marvins in front to address landmark requirements. The Marvins were about twice the price, $1,200 each vs. about $600. The Marvins were installed by E-Z Tilt and the Trimlines by LWP. I was very satisfied with both companies. No question the Marvins are a heavier duty product but the Trimlines have performed perfectly well too. Both are double hungs with separate screens. Both tilt in for cleaning.
