SOD
Planning to lay sod in our mudpit new back yard in Boerum Hill. We have dug and cleared almost all the lurking rubble bricks. We’re advised to get a heavy metal roller to help level the dirt before we can lay sod. Does anyone have an idea where we might borrow one? Thanks!

are you reusing the bricks? If not I would come by and take them away. I am adding paths and patio to my yard. Let me know
Yikes, I’m a lousy typist! Meant to say above”if it’s NOT flat”.
Great to hear that you’ll be rolling the area because if it’s flat, your lawn will be impossible to mow. But just a word of caution — you really can’t do enough prep to the soil before laying sod. Do dig the area as aggressively as you can and fork in amendments like composted manure and peat moss. This will help with drainage and also in getting the right pH value (read a gardening book for more details but sometimes it’s necessary to add lime). Both are critical to the success of any lawn. Btw, have you checked out the artificial turf at Cadman Plaza? It’s pretty cool: soft, nice looking and maintenance free. Kids love it and you don’t have to deal with endless watering, overseeding bald spots and using insecticides to get rid of nasty grubs. Lawns are a huge pain!
That tool rental place on 4th Av at around 13th St. probably has them – they’ve been cited on the forum many times.
Home depot rents them.
