Slumlord advertising hotel
There’s a slumlord on my block with a very unsightly building. I found out he’s advertising this building as a hotel on the web! A friend suggested I tell my local councilperson because this is clearly illegal–it’s a residential neighborhood. This guy is bad news…any suggestions?

I’m not sure I can help you very much. I only know about the place because I was interested in the house next door when it was on the market last year. The fact that the two buildings were attached to each other was a huge concern for me and my wife – and ultimately why we didn’t pursue the deal further. From the back it’s even more frightening, with exposed insulation falling out of holes around the windows, tangles of wires, etc. My gut feeling was I just couldn’t take the risk of living next to a building like that.
Thanks for the comments, OP here. Park loper, you are correct–it’s the “Little Princess.” I don’t want to share more details here but let me know if you want to email me directly–I would love some backup to do something about this problem. I will call 311 and follow up with community board.
That was my first thought.
What is your situation? Have you been living there all your life? Why does this bother you?
Call 311. Then call your community board with the complaint number. The community board office will follow up on this until resolution.
Are you talking about the place on 12th St between 4th & 5th that calls itself the “Little Princess Hotel”? It looks like a complete fire trap to me, and I’ve also been wondering if it was legal.
You can call 311 or go to your local congressman’s office. If he is advertising illegally as a hotel then a complaint of some kind can be filed. The tenants of the building should get together and make some complaints. If there are no violations and the taxes are paid, the city won’t care much about what goes on.
Find some really blatant safety issues. The FDNY will vacate the building within hours. Great fun to watch.
