After reading about this place here and elsewhere, I’ve been trying to get in touch with Father & Son Appliance Repair to no avail. An email and 3 phone calls that all went to voicemail (left a message each time) and still no response. I was really hoping to work with them after all the great things I’d read.
The only other place I’ve heard about is Belgrove and their reviews are mixed. I got in touch with them since I didn’t have any other choice and while they were very responsive, it looks like i’ll have to wait several weeks (i already had to wait until after the holidays) to get them to come look at the stove and they will be charging a “travel fee” to get from lower westchester to brooklyn, which is absolutely ridiculous since it’s not far at all.
So, i’ve decided to revive this question again in hopes that someone might have found any helpful “old timers” at regular appliance repair shops in the NYC area, or know of other places that service old stoves. As far as i know my 1950’s stove is in working condition, just needs a good cleaning (rust) and I’d like someone to check out the insulation and thermometer, install it, and let me know it’s safe.
Thank you!
Thanks to the Brownstoner, I found out about a great appliance repairman, Peter Natoli of Father & Son Appliance Repair (718) 344-3362. He has a website at http://www.appliancerepairbrooklyn.com/
Peter was our superhero. He figured out what the problem was with our vintage stove (1951 Magic Chef)–a busted part in the oven control valve. When we got the replacement vintage part through a specialty dealer Peter saw that the valve had the wrong type of threads on it! Rather than having to send back the part for another one, he knew how to take the busted shaft out of the original valve and replace it with the new one! He was sooooo patient, exacting, careful and professional, it was truly a joy to have his help.
His workmanship is the best and his prices are extremely fair! We needed to have the stove up and working soon so he came on the weekend! It is great to have such scheduling flexibility available when you don’t want to miss work.
He does lots of different types of appliance repairs to new and vintage pieces. My husband and I highly recommend him!
