I got a quote from Big Apple today. They are Wildly overpriced. In fact their price is not related to the job at all. They give you a price based on what they think they can get out of you. They gave me a price of $12000 to line my chimney for a gas furnace. It is a 4 story brownstone. They gave that price because they thought I didnt know anything about what they had to do. When they realized I had done some homework, they came down to $7,500. I had already been told by National Grid and other furnace installers that it should cost about $2500 to do the job. I would never hire them after this experience. All the companies are trying to rip people off now that Building code requires lining for gas conversion from oil furnace. This job was $1500- $2500 before Building dept change this year. Rip off.
Katiem633: Your post establishes that two companies quoted different services to you. It doesn’t establish that Big Apple is wildly overpriced. I’ve heard good things about A&A, and clearly their work met your needs and you’re happy with it. Speaking from personal experience, Big Apple did an excellent job at our building and provided services we needed that A&A could not provide.
Jason from big apple is a nice guy but they are WILDLY overpriced…. They quoted me over 18k worth of work to get my fireplace up and running… and that they would need to put in scaffolding etc. I went with Andre from A&A and he was able to get the chimney functioning for a fraction of the cost!

I second Jason and Big Apple Chimney. Great and hard-working crew. The work won’t come cheap, but will be done very well.
Call Jason Dorn at Big Apple Chimney, I had four different chimney companies come in before we picked him and it wasn’t a tough call at all. The work was fast and great and pretty reasonable (and no, I don’t work for him, just had him do our boiler flue and restore a fireplace for about half the price that our contractor wanted to charge). 718 648 3998
