Small biz lawyer needed
Familiar with buy/sell, employment contracts, partner and ownership issues. Need a specialist in small business, NOT a real estate lawyer!

Thanks SF. I’ll give him a try.
Something tells me Denton’s a pretty sophisticated, no nonsense guy. I imagine he’s a bit more concerned with the quality of the lawyer than the quality of the office furniture.
Denton, you could try Jack Carroll of Wolfson & Carroll, at least to get a solid referral. He’s in the Woolworth Building. He is more of a RE lawyer and does some election law, but he is a bit of a jack of all trades and knows everybody. There may be someone in his small shop who can cover the territory you need or he is likely to have a good referral if he’s not your guy. Worth a try if you don’t get a more surefire lead.
That’s what I figured. Bear in mind that not all “firms” are big fancy-pants firms. There are smaller groups of lawyers who have offices in Brooklyn that might be a step up from a storefront but many steps down from the kind of place where I currently work.
I bet I could really get into having a home office and doing work like this.
lechecal, I would expect to pay $250/hour or so, with a hour or two consult and a coupla hours document review. IOW a grand for the job I have in mind.
I would never expect a small biz lawyer to be in a big firm. How da f*ck would a big corporate firm understand the needs of a small bidnessman? lol.
So I would definitely expect to meet my atty in a home office/small office setting.
Denton: I doubt this is what you really want, but you might want to check these sites anyway. First is at SIBL (Science, Industry & Business Library); second is free small business consultations at Mid-Manhattan branch:

You know it’s funny, lately I’ve been thinking about getting out of big fancy corporate law and hanging out a shingle to do stuff like this. I bet I would really enjoy it. (in the meantime I’m not your man). Let me ask you a question though – what kind of figures do you have in your head right now for what basic advice along these lines would cost? And would you be comfortable meeting someone who was a solo practitioner with a home office or would you be expecting a storefront or a firm type environment? I often wonder just how much demand there is out there for services like this and what kind of expectations the clientenle would have.
