We installed honed absolute black kitchen counter tops. I don’t think they were ever sealed correctly. We tried to reseal the stone ourselves and were not too successful. I want to hire a company that will do a great job stripping the sealer off the counters so that they are back to there natural state. Then, I would like the company to reseal the counters correctly. Recommendation would be appreciated. Thank you!

  1. I’ve looked into getting work done refinishing countertops after installation with little success.

Dark countertops with a honed finish tend to show every scratch and are more difficult to clean than polished countertops.

Instead of trying to refinish already installed granite countertops, which I don’t believe is really possible without having them removed and brought back to the stone yard, you could try using very fine sandpaper to sand out any blemishes.

  2. one of the reasons I didn’t get honed AB granite is because the reviews of it are not good. There is a lot of spotting and problems with sealing, etc. I don’t have any first hand experience but my understanding is some of it isn’t truly black and gets artificially darkened to get it sold.

In other words, you may not have sucess when you strip and reseal. I’d go back to your supplier and get them to take a look at it.
