We recently got two new radiators installed in our apartment. One smelled for over a month(we had the company take it out) and the other one is rusting slightly. Does anyone have advice about either issue; i.e., how to avoid having new radiators where the smell won’t go away and whether the rust is a problem, health or otherwise.
Thanks!
Were they new radiators or used ones? What kind of smell was it? Was the rust on the outside of the radiator on the sections, or on one of the connections? An odor may occur on a new radiator (as bugleg) says due to compounds being heated that were used to connect the sections. That odor will eventually go away and is non-toxic.
Radiators often have manufacturing oils left on them–best idea is to set them outside before installation and scrub down with simple green then rinse with alot of water, and spray paint with high temp paint.
