Illuminated Exit signs SRO
I was told by my insurance company that I have to have illuminated exit signs in my building. I have an Brownstone SRO. I’m not sure where to start or even if I need to have these signs. Does anyone have experience with this? Do I have to get a permit first with DOB?

I was wondering how eman1234 knows this? It is easy to call an electrician. It is another thing to know exactly what you need when you call them.

It is difficult to search thought NYC fire codes and code 26. Does anyone know if SROs need exit signs illuminated? Does anyone know if there is an annual permit for this?
Thanks!
The photoluminescent signs don’t require hard wiring and may or may not be approved by code, so you should check first. They can last up to 10 years, but contain a small amount of raidoactive material and require proper disposal.
Check out this company, they have the photoluminescent signs they speak about on the docs Vinca provided.

I have no idea whether Local Law 26 applies to SROs, but here are a two links that might help you: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/reference/code_update.shtml
