Just wanted to post an amazing recommendation for Willian “Junior” Prates whose crew just plastered and painted my new apartment, and retiled my bathroom. I am so, so happy, and have passed along his name to my neighbors and friends (and am even coming out of lurkdom to write this posting).

While I can go on about how happy I am with the results, I wanted to write about why my experience was so positive. He is reliable – shows up on time, and is always reachable. He is a good listener, and responds to every request (even the tiny ones) with an eager “I can do that!!”. This meant that as part of my bathroom retiling and my painting, my bathroom sink pipes were replaced, and my floor resanded in the areas that were scratched up during my renovations by other contractors! When I said that my tub drain was old, for example, he quickly responded “I’ll pick up a new one for you at Home Depot”. I think these details made the difference between a nice job, and a great job.

It goes without saying that Junior is honest and reliable – but he also has a network of fellow contractors capable of customized work (plumbing, electrician, tiler, etc.). And above all, his prices are very, very REASONABLE!

His wife, Aida, is one of the loveliest people I have ever dealt with. She’s the one who books the appointments and is the point of communication between clients and Junior’s team. She picks up the phone to call you, for example, if Junior will be a few minutes late (a RARITY in the world of contractors). She always picks up the phone, or calls immediately right back after you leave a message. And she’s warm, friendly, easy to talk to, and easy to get along with. In fact, I will be using her housekeeping services after my renovations are complete because I want to make sure that Junior and Aida, who are such hardworking and honest people, will continue to be in my life.

Aida can be reached at 914-562-2706 or at aida_barbosa88@hotmail.com.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I will be more than happy to answer them.

  1. DON’T USE DON PERRONE based in Brooklyn. His company did a bathroom renovation mid-January which he said would take 6-8 days to finish. He even listed on his website that it’s done, which it clearly is not. 2 months later and I’m still waiting for his plumber Doug to come replace the shower body that he broke. I call and text and email and they either don’t return my calls or they don’t show up when they say they’re coming or they keep saying tomorrow, tomorrow. Not to mention, Doug put in my new tub not knowing how to install the trip lever (which stops the drainage), and I wound up with a really cheap push drainer because the trip lever will not function unless he removes the tub. They say they can do small to large jobs and you don’t have to pay upfront, but that’s not the case, they still ask you for the money even if the job is not done. STAY AWAY from these guys.

  2. Junior is working on fixing the partition between the owner’s duplex and the tenant apartments -we are also hiring him to skim coat our parlor floor if our stop work order ever gets lifted. Although he is not yet finished and I really should not be giving a rec yet, I have to say that he and Aida seem to be wonderful, hard working (not to mention patient) and honest people (and I am a cynic).

  3. No, Cobblehillcat, IPJ does not represent a self recommendation by the contractor. I’m a Brooklyn Heights resident, and I go by “IPJ” for silly personal reasons (pet’s name), but this recommendation is authentic. Believe what you want…up to you.
