skeleton key
Can anyone recommend a locksmith that is capable of fitting a skeleton key for an old door? I would like to use the old mortise box with the skeleton key. Thanks

Search “skeleton” in the forum. In addition to PHR’s recommendation, you’ll find others.
I had mine done at Charles Locks in Manhattan:

I had two keys made at a price of around $45/each. They were big brass keys, they make a nice impression hanging on a hook but you wouldn’t want to carry one in your pocket.
Later searching in Ebay I purchased a duplicate of my entire lock complete with an original key (we have about 4 door with similar hardware in the house).
From the ebay purchase I was able to learn what the original key is meant to look like (much smaller than the one that Charles made), and pick one up whenever I spot one.
Hope this helps.
